OUR MISSON: Cooking for the family – healthy but to a budget

My sister has two wonderful children aged 4 and 1. We both want to feed our children the best, just as every parent wants to. But when it comes to food there is actually so much information out there that it is confusing; don’t give them too much salt, don’t give them too much sugar but they need high fat milk, butter and cheese, organic is best; it’s so confusing and it is even more overwhelming when you hit the supermarket aisles with low fat, low sugar, no added sugar, organic, whole and free range foods.

My sister and I have decided to improve not only the diets of our children but ourselves. She will be the first to admit that she is quite a fussy eater and has been her whole life. Her son, who is now 4, can also have some tricky meal times. We both realise that our children copy us, if we are eating healthily then (hopefully) they will to. So it has become our mission to feed the whole family with the best foods that we can give them at prices that don’t blow our food budgets.

Each week we are going to try a healthy, low cost meal and review how the family takes to it.
